What to expect
Taking the first step can feel overwhelming, but we are here to guide you through the process with warmth and understanding.
1
complete our referral form
Our referral form alerts us that you are interested in accessing Play Therapy services for your child.
It's a chance for you to briefly tell us about yourself, your child, and the challenges they are currently facing.
Once we have this information, we will contact you to arrange the next step. You can access our referral form here.

2
parent intake meeting
After completing the referral form, I'll contact you to arrange a parent intake meeting.
During this meeting, we'll dive deeper to gain information about your child, their history, and the challenges they are currently facing. From here, we can set some therapy goals. This meeting is for the parents/caregivers to attend without your child, and can take up to 90 minutes. This can be completed in-person, or online. This is also an opportunity for parents/caregivers to ask any questions.
3
1:1 play sessions 1-5
Once the intake meeting has been completed, I will meet your child for their first play session. During the session, it will be just the therapist and the child in the therapy space. Sessions are scheduled weekly at the same time each week with each session being 45 minutes in duration.
We will continue weekly play sessions for 5 weeks before meeting for a parent update meeting.
4
parent update meeting
A parent update meeting can be arranged online, or in-person in the therapy space. This is an opportunity to debrief, discuss your child's progress, and review therapy goals. Each update meeting is 30 minutes in duration.
5
1:1 play sessions 6-10
We continue weekly play therapy sessions as above.
6
parent update meeting
A parent update meeting after 10 sessions.
7
repeat / discharge
We repeat the process again following the same process:
Play therapy sessions 10-15 - parent update meeting - Play therapy sessions 15-20.
We appreciate that each child is an individual and that their therapeutic journey is not linear.
On average, children will require approximately 20 sessions, with some children requiring more, or less time in the playroom to reach the end of their therapy journey.
We will discuss this stage during our regular parent update meetings.
